This course is intended for students who are interested in developing a career in IT. It has a strong emphasis on web design, mobile apps development, software development and animation techniques. The majority of the course is assessed by coursework assignments. In addition, there are two externally assessed units.
What goes well with this course?
BTEC IT courses go well with Mathematics, Media, Business, Science and Design courses.
This qualification shows that students can apply concepts and interpret practical situations. It will provide them with a strong grounding for further study at Coulsdon Sixth Form College in BTEC Level 3 Certificate, Subsidiary, Diploma or Extended Diploma.
Students learn to use a number of industry standard software packages such as Adobe CS5 to design and develop a website and animation.
This is a hands on practical subject that allows students to develop their design and software engineering skills.
Course Specific Trips, Visits & Experiences
The College runs a number of educational experiences each year to enable students to contextualise their learning. These experiences include trips and presentations by visiting speakers.
Students at Coulsdon Sixth Form College study in dedicated computing suites with state of the art IT facilities, including Microsoft Office 2010, Adobe Creative Suite software version 5.0, Apple software development tools (for creating Apple Apps), MIT for Android Apps and Microsoft Visual Studio. There is a 100 Mps network for superfast video streaming.
This course is assessed through 75% internal assessment of coursework and 25% external exam.
The exam board for this course is Pearson BTEC.
2 D and 3 E grades at GCSE including English and Maths minimum Grade E or equivalent qualifications (a Pass or higher at BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the 2 D and 3 E GCSEs).
