Science (Double) GCSE


This course will prepare students for further study in the scientific field.  Students will explore topics in Biology, Chemistry and Physics and develop their practical skills with a range of experiments and investigations.  


This qualification demonstrates that students can understand, interpret and apply scientific concepts.  A GCSE Science Grade C or above is a requirement for entry onto some higher education programs, such as midwifery, nursing or primary school teaching.  The course can also enable progression onto Level 3 science courses, such as BTEC Applied Science or A Levels.

Educational Experiences

Course Specific Trips, Visits & Experiences

The College runs a number of educational experiences each year to enable the students to contextualise their learning. These experiences include trips and presentations by visiting speakers.


The exam board for this course is AQA.  Assessment for core and additional science is by six written exams, covering each of the three sciences, and two controlled assessment tasks.  Each exam is one hour long and the exams comprise 75% of the total mark.  

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade E or above, including D, D in core and additional science and 3 in maths.
