This is a practical course that will give students the opportunity to complete assignments and activities based on real-life situations linked to a variety of well-known businesses. The course is enhanced by external visits, which provide students with the context for their work. This course is assessed through coursework, which includes presentations, role play and other practical elements, as well as traditional business formats, aswell as an exam. The course aims to provide students with the independent working and communication skills necessary for both employment and further education.
The Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A Level and along with the Diploma (equivalent to two A Levels) attracts UCAS points.

Business Studies graduates are in growing demand in a variety of fields, including Accountancy, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and Banking. A qualification in Business can help set students apart from other applicants and provide them with essential knowledge that will help prepare them for employment.
This course covers mandatory units of study such as:

Course Specific Trips, Visits & Experiences
The College runs a number of educational experiences each year to enable students to bring their learning to life. These experiences include trips and visiting speakers.
This course is assessed through 75% coursework and 25% exam. Students will be required to complete four units in each year of the course.
Year one - 50% coursework, 50% external assessment via exam.
Year two - 83% coursework, 58% external assessment via exam.
The exam board for this course is Pearson BTEC.
4 grades A* - C at GCSE plus English minimum Grade 3 and Maths minimum Grade 2 or equivalent qualifications (a Merit or higher at BTEC Level 2 in the same subject is accepted as part of the 4 A* - C GCSEs).
Students will enjoy this course if they:
- Prefer coursework
- Like doing presentations and pitches
- Would like to develop an understanding of how businesses work
- Are able to complete independent research
Students should have a general interest in how businesses work. They should also be comfortable with ICT and enjoy group work, problem solving, presentations, working with numbers and meeting deadlines.
