BTEC Public Services students were put through their paces this week when officers from the Royal Air Force paid a visit to the college to deliver  ‘Operation X’.

The students were engaged in a realistic problem solving operation to deliver humanitarian aid to a disaster struck ‘Island Nation’.  Student groups, who were given roles ranging from logistics to medical and technical, as well as defence roles, had to show their flexibility by responding  to sudden changes in priorities and then had to report back on progress at pre-set intervals.

Public Services course leader, Alex Harris was delighted with how the students responded to the mission they were set, achieving an 87% success rate. “ They demonstrated really good logical thinking; presentation skills were tested and they have learnt that they need to pay more attention to detail in some phases. I’m confident that they would achieve much closer to 100%, given another opportunity.”
