Biology

How did you choose what to study at Coulsdon College?
I chose subjects which interested me. Biology was an obvious choice as I’m fascinated with the functioning of the human body and health and fitness. I chose Public Services to help improve my communication and leadership skills. Combining A Levels with a BTEC has helped to spread the workload. Has your time at College helped you to decide which career you want to follow? I did Clinical work experience at East Surrey and St George’s Hospitals which gave me a unique insight into the healthcare profession and helped me decide on a career path. I want to become an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) as I feel I could make a real difference supporting patients before, during and after operations.

What type of course will you do to qualify as an ODP?
I’ve chosen to do a BSc in Operating Department Practice at South Bank University, which has links with world-renowned hospitals such as Guys, St Thomas’s and Great Ormond Street. More than half the course involves hospital placements so I can’t wait to get started.
