Business – BTEC Level 2 Award in Business
Overview
This is a practical course which will give students the opportunity to complete assignments and activities based on realistic situations linked to working in a variety of businesses. The course is enhanced by external visits and talks by visiting speakers.

The College runs a number of educational experiences each year to enable students to bring their learning to life. These experiences include trips and presentations by visiting speakers.
Progression
This qualification shows that students can apply concepts and interpret practical situations. Those who wish to progress and who have achieved a Merit, will have a strong grounding for further study at Coulsdon Sixth Form College on a Level 3 Course (BTEC or A Level).
The Award is equivalent to one GCSE. Students wishing to progress to a Level 3 BTEC qualification would need to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or the equivalent BTEC Level 2 qualifications (at Merit or above).
Entry Requirements & Assessment
Two 2 and three 3 grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics minimum Grade 2 or equivalent qualifications (a Pass or higher at BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the GCSE Grades).
This course is assessed by a combination of coursework (75%), projects and exams (25%). Students will complete four units over the course of the year. The emphasis of the programme is that students are assessed by engaging in practical groupwork and individual tasks.
Internal assessments will include:
- Developing professional posters and leaflets
- Role play
- Report and memo writing
- Article writing, using MS Publisher
- Excel spreadsheets
- Delivering presentations
The exam board for this course is Pearson BTEC.
