BTEC Level 2 Award in Health & Social Care
This course is an ideal introduction for students who are committed to working in the area of Health and Social Services. It is a one year course which leads to a qualification equivalent to one GCSE at Grade 9 – 4. Topics covered include Communication, Individual Rights, Cultural Diversity and Human Lifespan Development.
Course Specific Trips, Visits & Experiences
The College runs a number of educational experiences each year to enable the students to contextualise their learning. These experiences include trips and visiting speakers.
Health & Social Care students have opportunities to be involved in local community events.
This qualification shows that students can apply concepts and interpret practical situations. It will provide them with a strong grounding for further study at Coulsdon College in BTEC Level 3, or progression on to an apprenticeship scheme.
Entry Requirements & Assessment
Two 2 and three 3 grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics minimum Grade 2 or equivalent qualifications (a Pass or higher at BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the GCSE Grades).
This course will suit students if they:
- Demonstrate an interest in the caring professions
- Show willingness to learn
- Are able to meet coursework deadlines
Students should enjoy and be good at working with others, communicating in speech and writing, planning their own learning and meeting deadlines. The ability to use information technology is also important.
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have (or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above including English and Mathematics (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted on a BTEC Level 3 Programme.
This course is assessed through a mixture of course work and external examinations.
Students will begin to work on their analytical skills, through self analysis, which they will build upon if they choose to continue to study Health and Social Care at BTEC Level 3.
The exam board for this course is Pearson BTEC.
