Course Overview

Sociology helps students to gain knowledge and understanding of key social structures, processes and issues through the study of families, education, crime and deviance and social stratification.

Skills:

  • investigate facts and make deductions
  • develop opinions and new ideas on social issues
  • analyse and better understand the social world.

Course Highlights

-learn about classical sociologists including Durkheim, Marx and Weber their theories

-learn research methods to topics such as the family, education, crime and deviance.

public service careers: police, health professional. Also career in the legal profession. Useful for Social work careers too.

Entry Requirements & Assessment

Grade 3 for GCSE English Language and 2 other grade 3s or higher for GCSE English

2 Exams:

  • The sociology of families and education 1hr 45 mins
  • The sociology of crime and deviance and social stratification 1 hr 45 mins
