Coulsdon Sixth Form College students have once again won big at the Rotary Club of Croydon’s Annual Photography Competition 2018. Winning first prize and runner up in the over 17’s category plus The Simon Shaw award and the people‘s choice award. Photography students from both A Level and BTEC courses entered, with their work on display at the Croydon Clocktower in Croydon before the final ceremony on 18 October.
Students have showcased their work at this annual competition for a few years winning big every year. This is a real testament to the hard work of staff and students.
This year’s theme was ‘Street Life’ which produced some beautiful images. First prize is a day out with a professional photographer and went to student Nudaar Gopee for her picture where she used double exposure to create the affect she was looking for. After her win Nudaar commented, “I never expected to win so I was really surprised. The image took me a while as I need to wait for the exact moment so I capture it right.”
Nicole Williams who was the runner up in the over 17’s category said “I wanted to capture something which is a daily routine for many and the barbers shop fitted that. I was shocked that I won but the experience has been great”. Zoe continued “When I realised I’d won the Simon Shaw Award I was shocked and pleased. I am starting to look at my images to decide which ones will hang in the Croydon Clocktower café gallery”. Shawna was delighted with her People’s Choice award, “The whole experience has really opened up my eyes to what I’m actually capable of.”
Neal Vaughan Photography teacher was delighted with the finalists, “I’m really pleased with all the students who entered. The entries were amazing this year and expressed so many different ideals of Street Life”.
