Coulsdon Sixth Form College student Stephen Gooch, has been awarded an Apprenticeship with leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm, Goldman Sachs.

Places are highly sought after, with only 20 on offer a year. His four year Apprenticeship, which will enable him to specialise in Software Development, combines working with studying at Queen Mary’s University, to study for a degree in Technical Solutions.

Stephen has been studying BTEC Level 3 in Information Technology here at College. His love for programming started last year when he commenced his course. He explains, “When I started at College, I knew I enjoyed IT but once I got into the course and started programming more, it made me realise that programming was the route I wanted to take.” His hard work paid off and he has achieved the highest possible grades, Distinction* across the board in his IT course.

The process of applying for the Apprenticeship commenced in January and included video and phone interviews before assessments and face to face interviews in London. The apprenticeship offers him a four year paid placement, where he will work in the office for three days a week, while studying at St Mary’s for the other two. During the holidays, there is no let up and he is expected to work five days in the London office. “I am looking forward to starting in September at Goldman Sachs. I also have work experience this summer with them, which will be a great starting point.”

Staff at Coulsdon Sixth Form College, are really proud of Stephen’s achievement and wish him all the best for the future.
