Sutton through the seasons: Vintage-style tourism posters of the borough are a hit

A Carshalton artist has created a series of tourist poster-style prints which celebrates Sutton through the seasons.

Helena Vaughan designed the images in the style of vintage transport posters after friend Clare Callanan, co-owner of gift shop Calladoodles, suggested that she design a Carshalton in Winter poster.

She then designed a poster based on old pictures and, within an hour of delivering the prints to the Calladoodles store in Carshalton high street they began flying off the shelves.

“I’m totally amazed by it all, I knew this was an area to be proud of and all this has proved that the locals love where they live.”

Mrs Vaughan, previously from Mitcham, said she fell in love with the area more than 10 years ago and moved into Carshalton in 2004 with her husband Neal.

The pair have exhibited their artworks in the area since 2006.

She said: “I’m proud to live in Carshalton and proud to think that my designs are on the walls of so many homes in the area.

The Coulsdon Sixth Form College art teacher has said that she has since had regular requests for new designs and hopes to sell enough to spend more time with her four-year-old daughter, Jasmine, and two-year-old son, Lewie.

She added: “The plan is to try and make some money from my artwork when my kids were both at school so I don’t have to return to teaching full time.”
