BTEC Hospitality students at Coulsdon College are getting lots of practical experience in food and drink service. Following on from their impeccable service of drinks and canapés at the Art Auction earlier this month, they have now practised their serving skills on a very discerning audience, College staff! Early bird staff were treated earlier this week to a breakfast serving in the staff room. Greeting and seating was a crucial part of this special occasion, followed by order taking and delivery of breakfast made up of pastries, fruit, yoghurt and croissants.

Hospitality teacher Sarita Lightfoot-Taylor explains “The breakfast morning was part of Unit 6: Food and Drinks service, where students are assessed on their table presentation skills, customer service skills as well as being able to serve competently, confidently and independently.”

Lower sixth student Kadian Foster found the experience useful. “It was a great experience, it really helped with my confidence and I learnt how best to set the table and appropriate ways to speak to customers. If I decide to get a job in this sector, I would now have lots of confidence.”
