Earlier this term the Students Union organised a fantastic cake sale to raise funds for the South East Cancer Help Centre in Purley. Their baking skills brought in an impressive £88.27. College students have also taken part in a community bag-packing event at Tesco’s Purley store to raise awareness and support of the centre.

Following on from these initiatives, SU President Shawn Boothe-Ewerse and charity officer Michelle Maguire visited to centre on Wednesday 1 November to present them with a cheque for £100. They were given a tour of the centre and were also invited to join in with a pilates class.

Student Union and Duke of Edinburgh co-ordinator, Greg Saunders said: ‘This was a great opportunity to learn about the treatments the centre offers and some of the classes they run to aid people in their recovery from cancer.’
