Croydon College Group celebrates Investors in Diversity accreditation by the National Centre for Diversity

Croydon College, Coulsdon Sixth Form College and Croydon University Centre recognised for their commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion

Croydon College Group, the further and higher education institution in South London, has been awarded Investors in Diversity accreditation by the National Centre for Diversity (NCFD).

The accreditation is a reflection of the colleges’ implementation of the National Centre for Diversity’s FREDIE principles – standing for Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement.

The National Centre for Diversity is the UK’s leading diversity, equality and inclusion (DE&I) authority. Its Investors in Diversity award recognises organisations that demonstrate commitment to FREDIE principles in all areas of their operation.

Croydon College Group has implemented a number of practical changes to ensure all staff and students are aligned with FREDIE principles.  Onsite training led by a NFCD trainer, establishing mental health first aiders and dignity at work advisors, and a continued commitment to publishing gender and ethnicity pay gap figures are just some of the measures the college group has taken during its journey towards accreditation.

The NCFD observed significant progress at the college group throughout their rigorous assessment process. Their findings include: 95% of all staff are aware of FREDIE principles; a 20% increase in staff who agree that the college group is effective at sending out strong messages of its commitment to FREDIE; and a 28% increase in the number of staff who have had diversity training within the last two years.

Caireen Mitchell, Principal and CEO, said: “We are passionate supporters of the NCFD’s mission, to empower individuals and work towards a fairer, more inclusive society. These values are at the heart of our colleges, so we are thrilled to have our efforts recognised by the NCFD. As Investors in Diversity, we will continue to follow FREDIE principles in all areas of our organisation.”

Solat Chaudhry, Chief Executive at the National Centre for Diversity, said: “Congratulations to all the teams and leaders at Croydon College Group that contributed to the successful accreditation of the Investors in Diversity award. The colleges clearly evidenced their processes and were able to win the hearts and minds of their teams and change behaviours.”
