Former student Laura Smith has been awarded the BTEC Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Student of the Year 2017. This is a fantastic achievement and the College congratulates her on her success.

Along with winners in the other categories, Laura was invited to attend the national BTEC Awards ceremony on Thursday 6 July 2017 at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London. She was later presented with a certificate at the College by her local MP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake.

Teacher Donna Hollick commented, ‘I’m so proud of Laura and everything she’s achieved. It was a difficult category but her outstanding work really shone through.’

Tom Brake MP tweeted: ‘Fantastic to meet Laura Smith from Carshalton Beeches, ex Coulsdon College, the best BTEC student in her subject in the country!’

Laura studied A Level Sociology and BTECs Travel & Tourism, and Law. Speaking in the Sutton Guardian, she said, ‘I knew I wanted to go to Coulsdon College because it offered the courses in Travel & Tourism which I couldn’t do at school.’ Following her outstanding achievement, Laura plans to continue her career in the travel industry and is currently working in the No.1 Lounge at Gatwick airport.
