John McTernan, Director of Political Operations for Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and Director of Communications for Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, inspired the next generation at our Career Pathways Evening in March and during an A Level Politics lesson at the College.

Now working for the Prime Minister of Sweden, John provided some valuable insights for students on possible career pathways to a job in politics.

He discussed a variety of topics with staff and students, and was also asked his opinion on Oprah Winfrey’s recent interview with Harry and Meghan.

With his extensive knowledge of UK politics and political philosophy, John was able to expand on recent learning by politics students on issues such as the Conservative ideology and British political culture.

Coulsdon College’s Head of Humanities, Adrian Price said “We were delighted to have such a distinguished speaker at the heart of politics explaining his career path and latest political trends to prospective and current Coulsdon Sixth Form College students. John’s comments on current affairs, notable with regards to COVID-19, were very informative.”
