On Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st November, Upper Sixth students working towards the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Public Services went on an action-packed two-day land and water based activity trip to Hindleap Warren in East Sussex.

The first day comprised rock climbing and navigation, aimed at equipping the students with the skills and techniques required for the Land Based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities unit of the course.

The group then travelled to Ardingly College on the Tuesday to try their hand at canoeing and kayaking. Considering the water temperatures at this time of the year – and the fact they had to perform an effective capsize into the water– the students all performed remarkably well and were fully deserving of their British Canoeing One Star Award.

Head of Sport and Public Services Jason Gentles commented, “The trip was a fantastic experience all round and the students approached each activity with genuine commitment and enthusiasm. Capsizing into freezing water took real bravery but the students all bravely passed this section with flying colours.”
