Sports Students assist with Primary Schools’ Quicksticks Tournament

Coulsdon College was proud to host two rounds of the ‘Quicksticks Tournament’ run in conjunction with the ‘Croydon Schools Sports Partnership’ including the borough final.  The collaboration meant that Year 4 and 5 pupils from local primary schools benefited from the College’s fantastic on-site astro-turf pitch.

In preparation for the competition, Upper Sixth BTEC Sport students were given training from the Croydon Schools Sports Partnership on officiating and coaching hockey to children.

On the 24th February, the College hosted the Croydon South arm of the tournament, and students were formally assessed on their ability to implement their new coaching skills (with the results counting towards the Sports Coaching Unit of their course).

The borough-wide final was held at the College on the 10th March.  Six teams competed hard against each other, with Fairchildes Predators finishing in first place and Gresham Primary clinching second place.

As well as officiating, Sports students also had the lovely job of presenting the end of tournament medals and certificates.  David Smith, Sport and Physical Education Development Officer for the Croydon School Sports Partnership said after the event, “The students from Coulsdon College were brilliant.  As well as showing a great willingness to learn from the training days, they all showed a high degree of maturity and confidence during the events.  I’ve received many compliments from participating schools and every one of them should be congratulated for a job well done .”
