What attracted you to Coulsdon College?

I was attracted by the mix of students at Coulsdon, as well as the great facilities and a pleasant environment. I also liked the option to combine A Levels with BTECs, which was helpful when I didn’t do as well as I had hoped in an AS Level; I was able to convert to a BTEC in the same subject, giving me a much better chance of getting good grades and going to university.

Have you found a big difference between A Levels and BTECs?

Apart from the fact that there’s a lot more coursework and fewer exams, the main difference has been that I have two teachers for each of my BTECs. They all teach differently and I benefit from the expertise from each which is great.

What are your plans after College?

I’m hoping to go to university to study Economics. Ideally I’d like to work in Investment Management, before going on to complete a Master’s degree.

What would you say is your biggest achievement whilst at College?

I was very proud to organise the College’s celebration of Black History Month. We had a lot of fun celebrating equality and diversity with entertainment, cultural food, guest speakers and students in national costumes. I felt a real sense of achievement, working with students and staff from across the College to bring the event together.

Is this a subject you’re interested in?

Yes; I’ve been studying the meaning of BHM for my EPQ and have been debating its relevance today. With the help of a mentor, I’ve interviewed staff and students, written a 4000 word report and given a presentation to the Senior Leadership Team. As well as gaining extra UCAS points, this has been excellent preparation for going to university.
