Hospitality, Travel & Tourism

Were you clear about what you wanted to do when you came to Coulsdon College?

I knew I wanted to work in the Travel and Hospitality industry, but now that I’ve nearly completed the course, I’m clear that I want to work in Marketing within that industry.

Have you been on any trips as part of your course?

This year, the Travel and Tourism class organised and carried out a trip to Prague. We had to plan the whole trip, down to every small detail and it was really interesting to see which bits worked when we were there, and which bits required adjustment. It gave me a real insight into how much work goes into planning, pricing and packaging travel tours. It really helps that we have teachers who have worked in the industry to guide us.

What are your plans for moving towards a career in travel?

As a result of some work experience, organised by College, I now have a part time job working for an Independent Tour Operator to Mauritius. I am intending to go to Surrey University to study for a Degree in International Travel and Tourism and Hospitality Management.

What would you say is the highlight of your time here at College?

The Prague trip was a great achievement, but I have to say that the activity days in the summer were amazing for introducing me to new things. I visited Virgin Atlantic to take part in their emergency evacuation training, went horse riding and had an Italian taster day where I learnt some of the language and ate Italian food.
