Representatives from the Students’ Union visited Springfield Psychiatric Hospital in Tooting on Thursday 8th March as part of their campaign to improve Government funding for youth mental health.
The students met with Springfield’s directors to share their own experiences with mental health services in South London and to emphasise just how many young people struggle to get the access they need. They also discussed their response to the Government’s green paper on mental health provisions for young people, including their thoughts as to how the Government’s proposals should be rolled out.
Following a useful discussion on funding and waiting times, the directors agreed to continue to work with the students to create strategies for improvement.
The next step in the campaign is for students to meet with the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group for Croydon. This is due to happen later this month.
