Competitive Sport

Coulsdon Sixth Form College aims to give all students an opportunity to enjoy sport and physical activity, whether as members of a College team (see below).

Sport and Physical Activity

Coulsdon College has create a Sport and Physical Activity Strategy.

The vision is for physical activity to be “embedded in the culture of the college and for them to be recognised as a leading college for a sporting culture”.

The delivery of Sport and Physical Activity at both Coulsdon can be categorized into one of five strategic aims:

  • Strategic Aim 1 – Participation in Sport
  • Strategic Aim 2 – Volunteering in Sport and Coach Education
  • Strategic Aim 3 – Community Sport
  • Strategic Aim 4 – Competitive Sport
  • Strategic Aim 5 – Facilities and Funding

Participation

Coulsdon College offers a full timetable of sports activities via its comprehensive Activities Programme. This incorporates popular sports such as Football and Basketball in addition to less mainstream sports such as Archery.

The College also seeks to make sports such as Golf more accessible to its students – and has recently arranged for a series of sessions to be delivered by PGA professionals at Coulsdon Golf Club.

Volunteering in Sport & Coach Education

To support the Sports and Physical Activity Programme, Coulsdon College also offers students the opportunity to be Sports Ambassadors.

Community Sport

The College works hard to foster strong connections with local sporting providers such as FTF Academy.

Competitive Sport

The College performs extremely well against other Colleges and makes it one of the very best places to play competitive sport.

College teams compete in the Surrey Sixth Form Colleges League in the following sports:

  • Mens’ Football
  • Ladies’ Football
  • Rugby
  • Cricket
  • Netball
  • Basketball

Depending on interest, the College can also run teams in volleyball, tennis, table tennis, badminton and swimming although the College is not able to offer team practice sessions in all these sports.

Trials are held during enrolment week and fixtures run throughout the academic year. Most teams compete on Wednesday afternoons and students should bear this in mind when finalising their timetables.

Opportunities also exist through British Colleges Sport for competing in Cross-country, Squash, Athletics, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Trampolining and Golf. The BCS organises tournaments, leagues and fixtures for Sixth Form and Tertiary Colleges, and gives students the opportunity to represent both South East Colleges and British Colleges in competitions.

Football Academy

All full-time students at Coulsdon College can apply to join the Colleges Football Academy, run in partnership with FTF Academy.  This gives the lucky players football coaching in addition to their main courses at College or at the FTF training ground.

The College has excellent sporting facilities including:

  • A fully equipped Sports Hall, used for playing 5-a-side Football, Badminton, Volleyball, Netball and Basketball
