Media Studies A Level
This course will provide you with the opportunity to explore the world through important critical perspectives
and take an increasingly analytical approach to media texts. You will also be able to apply your knowledge and understanding of the key concepts through the creation of your own media products. Topics include: Television in
the Global Age, Changing Representations Media in the Digital Age, Video Games, Advertising and Music Video,
News in the Online Age and Film Industries – from Wales to Hollywood.

Five GCSEs grade 9-4 and a satisfactory school reference.Including English Language at grade 4 as a minimum.
You will also need to show an art portfolio, containing recent examples of creative work you have done.
Students will learn to use industry standard software including Adobe Creative Suite programs such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro and InDesign, with a license that allows them to access all of the Creative Suite software in college and at home.
Recommended Equipment: (Differs to Level 2 and Level 3)
A 64GB to 128GB SDXC drive such as SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO SDXC card is compulsory. If you qualify for bursary this will be purchased on your behalf.
We also recommend additional external storage such as a 500GB to1TB Hard drive.
This course provides a useful background for academic or vocational courses at university and/or employment in media industries such as production companies, PR, journalism, advertising, music industry, or teaching/lecturing in media.
This course is assessed through both examinations and coursework.The exam board for this A Level is WJEC.
